Ask the Readers: Chocolate Fountain

I received this email from a reader and I don't have any experience with this, so I thought I'd throw the question out there to my readers. Please offer any suggestions in the comment section. Thanks so much!

Have you ever come across an allergy-friendly recipe for a chocolate fountain or chocolate fondue? I have a 'turning-fifteen" year old daughter who is allergic to dairy, egg, and peanuts who really wants a chocolate something for her birthday party. If you have any ideas, I would really like to hear them.

I have had luck melting Enjoy Life brand chocolate chips and dipping crackers and cookies into them to make treats for my boys. They are pricey, but can easily be used for a fondue.

Just so happens, I'm allergic to dairy and peanuts too! We LOVE fondue at our house and have come up with 2 ways to enjoy it:

Chocolate made from scratch (super easy):
http://www.healthfulpursuit.com/2010/12/chocolate-cups/

Follow the directions to make the chocolate (halfway down the page). This chocolate (as long as it's kept warm) will be liquid forever!

Another great one if you don't want to make it from scratch is this: http://www.healthfulpursuit.com/2010/11/chocolate-pomegranate-mousse/
Stop after step 3, and just keep the chocolate warm.

Good luck!

I have had great success with the chocolate fountain using Enjoy Life chips with some coconut oil. You must add the oil to keep the chocolate flowing plus it gives it a nice sheen.

Our family is new to the world of food allergies. There is so much to learn, it can be overwhelming! Thank you for the tips and recipes in your blog!

we have successfully kept enjoy life chips melted in a small dip crock pot on low/warm heat for parties. :) there's so many allergy free snacks you can dip with skewers, marshmallows, graham crackers, bananas, strawberries, pretzels. mmmmmmm!

Should we use the dark morsels from enjoy life or semi sweet chips?
